Modest Mouse – King Rat Video Directed By Heath
   5
   Aug

A Modest Mouse video directed by late movie star Heath Ledger premiered online Tuesday (August 4th)

The animated promo for “King Rat” will debut on MySpace.com.

Oscar winner Ledger conceived the video’s theme in order to raise awareness of the plight of whales hunted down illegally off the coast of his native Australia, according to NME.com.

Ledger failed to complete the video before his death in January 2008; the project was finished by the actor’s partners at film company The Masses.

A very powerful video. I am so pleased it was completed on Heath’s behalf. Even though we no longer have Heath with us, this video shows what a wonderful human being he was and how he wanted to make things better in the world. By letting people know about this video we can make sure that his legacy lives on.

  • Dee Says:

I agree Emma – a very powerful video indeed, with clever use of role reversal to help get across the message that he was trying to portray. I’m glad that Heath’s friends were able to complete this on his behalf. Heath would have been an amazing director, I know it’s something he always wanted to do, and like his passion for acting, he would have been great at it – he had a very good eye. Heath would have been very happy to know that this particular piece of work is now finished for all to see, enjoy, and most importantly to learn from.

Hayden, Dee. Please see the message i have left on the Dr.P hits the web post.

  • Hayden Says:

I’m sorry Emma, but I am afraid I do not know of which website you speak of. Care to give me the link?

  • Dee Says:

Hi Hayden – Dee here. What Emma means, is check the “Recent Posts” to the left of this page, and click on the link for “Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus Hits The Web”. Once in there, scroll down to the comments, and in one of them Emma leaves a link for the official trailer for “Imaginarium”, and if you click on that link, you will see it. It’s pretty amazing, you will love it. Anyway, hope this helps…

  • Emma Breeze Says:

Hi Hayden, sorry for not being too clear, hope Dee’s explanation helped and really hope you have managed to see the trailer. I’m sure like us you will love it, please let us know, Em.

  • Hayden Says:

Hello Dee and Emma, I do understand now what you are talking about. I watched the trailer and I have to say – it looks phenomenal! Nothing like I ever imagined but everything I had hoped to expect and more. Heath looks absolutely amazing as always, and seeing him smile in the trailer was one of the best things I have seen in a very long time. It made my day.

Thank you for sharing the link with me. (The video was in such good quality too!)

I cannot wait to see this movie. I hope it scores big at the box office, if only for Heath’s sake. He most definitely deserves it.

    Anyways, thanks again! :)

  • Dee Says:

I agree with you Hayden, the previews for this movie are even better than I had anticipated. Even though we have to wait till the end of the year to see it, I guarantee it will be worth it. I look forward to keeping in touch and enjoying future discussions with you.

  • Hayden Says:

Yeah, I as well am sad that we will have to wait till the end of the year to see the movie, but I know that the wait will definitely be worth it. Heath’s movies always are.

    Keep in touch!

  • Edward Says:

  • Emma Breeze Says:

Hi Hayden, so glad you have seen trailer and loved it. I am starting to hear more people talking about it which is great. I have said to Dee it is a shame we won’t all see it at the same time but like you said it will definitely be worth the wait! It’s lovely to have got to know you on this site thanks to our darling Heath. My e-mail address is on the Dr P post where we have left comments. Dee and I have been having quite a few chats which has been great! Feel free to get in touch if you ever fancy a chat about Heath or anything. Take care, Em.

  • Hayden Says:

Will do! Thanks again. It’s been great talking to you both on here. I’ll be sure to contact both of you if I ever have any questions or just want to talk about Heath! =D Have a lovely day, and until next time!

Emma, I was wandering if you might know where I can go to see this video. I tried watching on this site, but apparently is not for view in this country (I’m in U.S.A!) Surprising, but this is the message I got when attempting to watch. As a Heath’s fan, I’m sure you can appreciate me wanting to see it. Thanks.

  • Emma Breeze Says:

Hi Rosadahlia. I’ve desperately been trying to find a way for you so try this and see if you can view it; Google Modest Mouse and click on Modest Mouse Videos on page 1 on the right hand side. Once you are in, scroll down and you should see King Rat by MM. It played ok for me so I really hope it does for you! Let me know what happens and if not we’ll go back to the drawing board and try something else. Good luck, Em.

Emma, It’s been a while! Hope all is well. I just want to thank you for providing the link to the video, however be-lated. I enjoyed it, as I knew I would. Heath’s birthday is approaching and I start to get melancholy about it. Also, my Mom died 7 years ago today, and wanted to visit this site, the connection being that both Heath and my Mom were born in the same month. I also like to leave the following link for the video, as it took me several steps before I could actually view it: http://www.zimbio.com/watch/mG10AnR2WXH/King+Rat/Modest+Mouse. The video is excellent, in my opinion, with a little taste of Terry Gillian’s work and Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times.

Hi Rosadahlia, I am so glad you did get to see the video and am so happy you enjoyed it!. I completely understand how you feel about the anniversary of your mum and also Heath’s birthday approaching. I too have lost my mum and dad and days like birthdays, Christmas bring back many memories. I think it’s lovely you wanted to visit this site and I hope yesterday wasn’t too hard for you. I love having this site to remember Heath and all the wonderful things he did, we will never forget him!
