   2 Why does Heath deserve at the very least an Oscar nod for his portrayal of the Joker… simple. First, in a true performance, whether aided by make-up or not, you should not be able to recognize the actor playing the role, he should slide under the surface and the audience should believe the character truly exists… and it is impossible to see Heath Ledger’s Joker as anything but the Joker. Secondly, for someone to be able to play such a vile character with not one false note that you not only empathize and like the character, but at points you’re rooting for his anarchy (against all “morals”) is something rare for motion pictures… I can only think of a few performances in this vein that win over a viewer so completely they are left awestruck, the most prominent in my mind being Edward Norton in “American History X”… comic book movie or no, Heath commanded the screen and did more than just steal the show from the rest of the cast, who also were on their top game…. and he’s the Joker….    6 Can I sign it over and over and over again? That’s what I want to do with the movie, see it over and over and over again! Absolutely amazing! He needs to win the Oscar, the Globe and everything else possible. It shouldn’t matter whether the Oscar’s go to this type of character or not. Based on the acting, which is truly outstanding, he should win it. The creepiest character I’ve ever seen. Not one to make you jump out of your seat, but to make your skin crawl!     11 Heath Ledger as the “Joker” in The Dark Night, completely made the movie! They couldnt have chosen a better actor to be the Joker. He has done a remarkedly good job in all of his movies, but The Dark Night was by far the best. We all got to see a side of him as an actor we never got to see before.     12 heath needs to be best leading role. this movie is all about the joker and no offense to christian bale but heath did the best performance in this film compared to everyone else that appears in it. this is definitely the best batman and the best film I’ve ever seen in my entire life. the joker role is so scary but yet so intelligent and humorous at the same time.     14 Why supporting Actor? Heath plays the most important role of this movie, in my opinion. I don’t think any other actor comes close to his character. Including Christian Bale. The other actor that gave an exeptional performance, that made a significant role in the movie was Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. But as far as Importance to the plot, and that amazing awe that he brings no one comes close. The show was stolen by Heath Ledger, Cristian Bale plays a very secondary role in my opinion, and Heath deserves the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar. Reply to this comment.

    15 Heath should absoloutely not just be nominated (which he should) but win this award. This was the best acting job I have truely ever seen in my life. He completely became the character. He had to loose the Australian accent and at the same time use a strange english voice, which face it; is not easy. Imagine if YOU had you speak in another accent and somehow use a different voice in that accent. Anyway, the point is, Heath clearly did an amazing job as this character, and in my opinion did a much more outstanding job than previous jokers. This joker was much less cartoonish and more beleivable, and was also at times appropriately funny for his role. It’s hard to love a villian, but I think we can all agree we all loved this villian because he was so beleivable, and kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what he would do next. I honestly doubt any other actor could do close to as good of a job as Heath Ledger did. Heath’s joker was so thrilling and exciting and made you just want to know everything that was going to happen with him. If you have not yet seen this movie, do so now as soon as you can, it’s long, but it’s worth every cent and second to see it. Although Heath has passed away, he still deserves this award just as much as any other. It is a very disrespectful thing to not nominate such clear deserving talent, and not to mention discriminating against the dead. If one person has received an award from the grave, I think I speak for everyone with a brain when I say Heath Ledger more than deserves the second. It’s a shame that he couldn’t live to see what a success his character has become, and I think it would be quite an honor to him looking down at us to see that we could have enough respect to respect someone- even if they have passed- and give them what they deserve for an outstanding job.     17 Janny… the fact is unless you are a member of the voting bodies of the Golden Globes or the AMPAS (Oscars) there isn’t much we can do… Except for this excellent petition. Let our voices be heard! Go out onto every board out there… go find every fan blog… go find every movie fan and tell them THEY MUST sign this petition. I will bet you that the hudreds of signatures that are on this today will soon be thousands if we do. And if we do that, people will notice… And if they notice… we will make a difference!     21 Heath was truely the best I’ve seen on screen in a long time. He should get more then just best supporting actor, he MADE the movie what it was! It was so different from any role he has ever portrayed. I was amazed at how well this actor was developing! We lost him to soon. Heath you were a true talent that the whole world will miss greatly!     22 I would go even further and say that he should be nominated and win best actor. The film’s action all turned on the joker’s whims and like Johnny Depp in the first Pirates, the audience waited with baited breath each new scene to witness that miraculous performance. It is a tragedy that Heath’s joker character can no longer be reprised in any film, but we are all fortunate to witness another one of those “once in a decade” performances. Reply to this comment.

    24 Heath definitely deserves an Oscar for his work in The Dark Knight. He should have recieved one while he was still alive for Brokeback Mountain honestly. Heath was BRILLANT in The Dark Knight. There wasn’t a second i didn’t want more of the joker… & When it ended i was in complete awe of just how amazing this movie was & how Heath outshined all of the other jokers.     30 He was truly amazing in acting out the villainous character I knew he was in it somewhere but didn’t realize he was the JOKER (refuse to read any review before I watched the movie). It’s not about the make up, but it was about how he brought out the character and suppressed his individual self. He was THE JOKER and not Heath Ledge acting the role of the JOKER. He deserves the award due to him remarkably bringing the JOKER character to live. I’ve never seen such great acting skills in such villainous roles. I don’t think anybody could have done it as well as he did. In my opinion the movie wouldn’t have been so interesting if it wasn’t because of the amazing appearance of the JOKER. I will be so dismal to the person that receives the Oscar instead of Heath We lost a wonderful actor, but most importantly..a wonderful father. “Everything happens for a reason”. I know Oscars are all about politics and not work and talent but Hollywood has to do the right thing for once and acknowledge his unbelievably brilliant performance.     47 Heath did an astonishing job on the joker I believe better than Jack Nicholson, no offence, performance was great in this movie and in many others such as, knights tales, dark knight (obviously), Brokeback mountain, (I don’t care if he played the part of a gay cowboy), and other movies were great … he really got the idea of the character in the dark knight movie it’s a shame that he is gone would of liked to see him in a sequel or in any other movie, but this movie I believe really showed that his acting isn’t always to be shown as the long blonde headed pretty boy, but also that he can switch and that he can be evil, and cruel I believe he should get this award definitely! 100% Reply to this comment.

    55 Having just seen the movie last night i can honestly say that i have not seen an actor get so encgrossed in a character for deades!! I am an avid movie lover and i think that Heath had that rare talent that out so-called movie starts of today would give their souls for. He was both brilliant and demonic in his characterisation of the joker making the audience believe in every one of this evil cackles and his manic beliefs. This is what acting is supposed to be about. Becoming the character and not just playing a role. How can someone so young be so talented in his craft? Obviously Heath was meant to leave us at the time that he did but he has left behind a legacy for decades to come for every aspiring actor. If only they could be a tenth as good as Heath was in this movie then wer will finally get back the old stlye hollywood and not jsut worship at the alter of ‘bimbo’ stars of today. RIP Heath you were and still are one of the best actors the world has seen in a very long time. Reply to this comment.

    61 Heath should get an oscar. I believe he has indeed reinvented the wheel with acting. I’ve seen nothing like the Joker in The Dark Knight and I doubt I’ll ever see it again. They let The Joker live, now he can come back in the next movie!” Heath made the Joker so creepy, yet fun to watch that you coudn’t get enough!     64 Heath’s performance as The Joker had such an impact on me that I am just now mourning his most unfortunate death. His depth as an actor, particularly as contrasted to his role in BrokeBack Mountain, is unmatched. Not since Dustin Hoffman have I seen such a talent playing such diversified roles and I feel deprived of what would have been fantastic future roles and extremely sad for his daughter and family for not having the opportunity to share life with such a special person.     67 Heath was a brilliant actor, his movies were a pleasure especially the Dark Knight. He may have passed away but his performance did Hollywood good. He deserved an Oscar, and it is a shame now he won’t be able to see it handed it to him. Though family and friends would cherish it for a life time, knowing he earned this and though he might not be here to accept it that somewhere he see what a joy he brought to the Cinematic World.     75 His performance is what acting is all about. I was absolutely amazed. He transformed himself into the best villain to ever terrorize the screen. Honestly, I was never a fan of his work until “the Joker”. He IS the Joker. He should at least be nominated and it would be no surprise if he won.     76 Heath Ledger was and will be the most outstanding and atonishing actor ever! His performance as the Joker touches off the incredible mind-blowing movie ‘the Dark Knight’ and it was simply remarkable to show off his last (unexpected) piece of acting. It was just simply superb! Im not boasting about Heath because he had a tragic death, but ever since he stepped into the movie industry, already he was triumph.     91 Sadly, it has only been after his death that i realised whan an amazing actor heath was. He deffinetly deserves an oscar for his role of the joker, the best portrayal of the joker so far and i doubt that anyone will be able to top it. Some may disagree, but without Heaths outstanding contribution to the film, i don’t think it would be the film that it is. Heath was a fantastic actor and i am sure he would have had many more roles providing him with the awards he deserved! Its such a great loss and he will be dearly missed. Rest In Peace, Heath.     97 incredible performance, i cant bring to words just how incredible it was. he was, in a deranged way, awesomely likeable, funny and very very creepy. Even to how perfectly spine tingling he made that lip lick and the voice, just outstanding. no matter how many times i tried to look for heath in there all i could see was the joker. He made the joker, the joker.      108 Heath Ledger should be nominated for an Oscar because He did a wonderful performance in Batman: The Dark Knight, as The Joker. He played his character extremely well. Heath stole the show. He is an amazing actor. Just look at how he plyed his character in Brokeback Mountain, The Brothers Grimm, etc. Then look at his charcter in The Dark Knight. They’re all different! This proves that he is extremely talented. Eventhough Heath died earlier this year on January 22nd, he still deserves an Oscar.
